Strictly in terms of smoothness and detail, a CRT will almost always beat an LCD. The LCD may improve brightness. But graphically, all things being equal, most heavy duty gamers prefer a CRT.

I personally can't tell the difference.

But, then again, I flunked the airport screeners test for finding guns in baggage.

LOL!

I still prefer CRT monitors.
LCD monitors I have seen most of the time colors varies (I can notice this in web pages mostly) and in order to have an almost CRT quality you have to pay big bucks so ... why bother?
But if you don't want that Sony, you can send it to Puerto Rico to me!! lol

The NEWEST high-performance LCD's will turn your head---sure it will cost abit more atm, the specs and actual image quality now can exceed a crts ability and will only get better---be prepared to switch in the future...

go with a crt definitley..... not to mention the price difference... you can get a good 21" crt for the price of a low quality 17" lcd not to mention the crt's are better for gaming as long as your not short on space

the lcd's often have ghosting but some may have less than others...however for the price of a good lcd you can probally get 2 good or 3 average(which are still probally better than the top lcd) crt's

Dont go by the past few years comments on LCD's which "most" negative comments emanate from---its time to look again (or look for a first time for the naysayers) at the high performance LCD's made today...

I have a 17in. Benq FP767 with 16ms . I stand by it as a solid gaming LCD. Yes, there are better ones, but $350 shipped is a hell of a deal for this monitor. Very bright, clear, decent color reproduction and no ghosting. (got it after TONS of research)

And I am short on space so it's even better for me. If you want an LCD for gaming your time is now. Go ahead and get one but if you don't care about space you have a great monitor already.

tkop I understand what you are saying and I looked at some reviews at different sites like Tom's and MaximumPC but still ... a hefty price. That's what worries me

Maybe when LCD's go down (way down) in price I might reconsider
