Wireless Router As Bridge

I went to the store today to look at wireless bridges. A guy that worked there told me that I can get a wireless router for almost half the price and have it work as a bridge by turning off dhcp in it. I have a 2Wire DSL/Router im trying to get it to connect to and Im not doing so well. The one I bought is a Linksys 2.4Ghz 802.11b wireless router.

The guy you talked to is probably like most retail computer store clerks. Clueless. I believe there is one AP/Router combo that has bridging functionality, but as a general rule combo units do not bridge wirelessly. You'll need an AP in "client mode" since your using a AP/Router combo as the parent device. You can always wire to the second router's switch and uplink it that way but if your trying to get the Linksys router to bridge then move on cuz it ain't happening. Hey, maybe your 2Wire will bridge. I can't remember the name of the one that does have that funtion but look at the manual, maybe it's the 2wire. I'd return one and get a WET11. Bridging is not part of the .11b spec so it can be very proprietary. The WET11 does pretty well with other MFG's parent AP's so that would be your best bet if you want to wirelessly connect.
