do you mean you are trying to copy the old hard drive to the new hard drive?

or put the old hard drive with the new hard drive, and use the old one as a storage drive?

have you tried chkdsk /p in the recovery console? That's how I fixed mine.

A repair istallation from the recovery console almost always fixes this problem. Just put the CD in and select R when prompted.

It mostly likely means your new computers hard drive controllers are not compatible with the old controllers you had in your older system.

When Windows loads it trys to load the IDE controllers you have setup in the registry and the bios. Since the new controllers don't match the old controllers that is why your system won't boot.

Also....... and more then probably your system boot.ini does not show up properly now in your new system.

One caveate when you are swichting systems is to back up your info and reinstall Windows (any version) FRESH!

Have you tried booting your system in (F8) safe mode? It probably doesn't give you a chance does it?

quick question...are you trying to get your install of windows from your old comp to work with your new one without reinstalling windows? if so in my experience this is incredibly difficult and rarely works. i would recommend just reinstalling windows personally. it will definitely fix your problem.

as to the problem at hand my guess is that the new IDE controller works differently enough that it can't access the install correctly which was configured to work with your old controller. just a guess tho.

After giving it some thought- even if it is not the IDE controller issue you still need to do a clean install if you expect this to work without many bugs and errors.

You can do a number of things before you remove the hard disk to help along, like remove everything from device manager and delete the enum key. However, chances are you'll still need to reformat. (well, you don't actually need to reformat, but you will need to reinstall)
