This will work if your PC has DVI

So to answer your question, yes it can be done.

You need Apple's ADC-to-DVI box and a graphics card with DVI output, then you're in.

... but since $379 easily buys you a very decent 17" 1280x1024 TFT that's PC compatible DVI right out of the box, why bother?

(I completely agree with you though - why fool with an adapter?)

Don't forget, there's no way of changing settings on the Apple monitors, you need an Apple computer if you want to change the settings, AFAIK, last I heard that was from a Max PC magazine when Alienware decided they wanted to build insanely expensive computers.
