Kids movie problem

HI! I don't know where to post this but since I need help in this area may be you can help me out here...

I have a DVD which I was able to copy to my hard drive in .VOB format. Problem is when I run it in Windows Media Player 9 it will not run saying it does not have the required codec to play it. Worse, when I try to convert the file from .vob to mpeg, the file was corrupted and I couldn't run it.

My questions:
1> How do I convert a vob file into mpeg or mpeg-4?
2> Where do I get the codec for the vob file?

My specs:
CPU - AThlon XP 1600+
Mobo - EPOX KHa8+ 266 DDR
Video - GeForce Titanium 4400 128DDR
HD - 2 40GB SEagate 7200 rpm
DVD - liteon 16x48x
CDRW - Liteon 40x12x48x
Soundcard - Creative Live 5.1

Thanks and more power!

The short answer is you need a software DVD player to play DVDs on your computer, ie, PowerDVD, WinDVD, or a plugin for WMP (MS has then listed for sale on thier site).

does Windows media player 9 play dvds?

have you tried using your dvd software to play the vob files, otherwise see if you can view it in something like dvd2avi

AFAIK WMP9 only plays DVDs if you have a software DVD player program like WinDVD installed on your computer.

Converting VOB files to AVIs will take some serious time.

Didn't your DVDrom come with some software?

I have PowerDVD for my software DVD. I want to know if I can convert my vob to avi or mpeg 4 or any format that can be read by Windows media player 9. I don't think my Power DVD software includes conversion of vob to other formats.
