I havent checked lately wlan, last time they didnt had support for the chipset, the G series from Linksys are made with Broadcom chipset... and Broadcom refuses to release a driver/specs for open source to develop a driver...

this makes linuxant and ndiswrapper the only options.... they use the windows drivers with a loaddriver that makes the calls to linux...

he's asking about the 2.8 series 802.11B though

Ver. 4 of the LInksys is where they changed chipset (although I could be wrong if USB versions are different)

Oh and no they haven't released drivers for the new chipset
Those @$%@$% at broadcom

Sucks linksys switched
Prism made quite a bit available for them.

Thanks for the help...I will give those drivers a try. Linux can see that there is a device there, it just doesnt know what it is. I am pretty patient when it comes to things like this. Its all learning for me and I'm having fun with it.

upsss didnt notice b....

lauroy8 verify what chipset do you have:

as root type:

lspci

and look for it on network controller or usb device (not sure because its hooked to the usb port), it will tell you what chipset you have...

I believe it is a Prism based unit. I got the drivers from linix-wlan.com. When I do "make config" it wants to know where the linux source directory is?? Sorry to be a pain....just learning.

Thanks

It depends if you installed the Kernel-Source package

Search in your RPM Manager for "Kernel" and make sure the source package is installed

After that it should default to /usr/src/linux
