Kids Use of wireless router from US in Europe

Can a wireless router, specifically the Netgear WGT624, travel internationally. What do I have to be aware of when I change country, or is this hopeless and you just have to get another one? I am specifically thinking of the differences between Europe and US.

Voltage differences come to mind.

Yep, came to my mind too, but that can be sorted with an adaptor. It would still work on the same frequency? Do you know whether I am going to need to install different firmware? I have no idea how easy this would be!

yep but that can easily be solved by an adapter...but are you moving or something.....if so i would get all european stuff...adapters can get really expensive....or mabey if you can find a surge protector/adapter so you would only need one

there may also be some government polocies that limit rf communications but if you have us cards and routers then it should all sork together...i dont know if european cards are different frequencies and stuff but i know that cell phones run on different networks and stuff there

EDIT: aw you beat me

In general the only think you will have to worry about is the voltage. Americans use 115V and the EU is on 220. Plug a 115V object into a 220 wall for some interesting effects! They have Transformers... normally big metal objects which can change the 220 into 115 but they cost about $100 for a transformer that is good for 1000Watt load. A huge disadvantage to the transformers is that they burn energy. They have been known to really jack up powerbills and shoundt be left pluged in unless in use.

The data sheets for Netgear WTG624 from the .co.uk and the .com sites are exactly the same except for the waranty. The only item localized to the country of sale would seem to be the power adapter, which is 5 VDC, 2A. That should be easy to obtain from electrical outlets I would have thougt. There is nothin on these sheets to sugest any other problems, or special liscences. I have contacted Netgear with this question, so I'll post their response here if they do...

I just got the following info from Netgear, so I think this is the end of this thread. Thanks for your help:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for contacting Netgear Support. My name is Saravanan & I will be handling your enquiry.

I would like to inform you that you have to just change the country in the wireless settings of the router.

Regards
