Will WinXP Become crap if

Will my windows XP Become messed up if i upgrade a P4 1.6 to a Amd 3200+? i just got the 3200+ from my bro for free.. and its a nice server upgrade,.. the 1.6 is a server i can just dump junk on it have 1X 120Gb 8m and 2X 200Gb WD Hd's on it so i just dump Junk on it. its fun, also Use it as a webserver/ CS server gets a nice ping off of ADSL. Runs winxp Pro, just want to know if its gonna be a problem changing it over. if there is, how do i avoid that?

XP will probably refuse to boot with a new motherboard. By all means try it, but be ready to do a fresh install if needed. This means move essential data/documents off the system partition of whichever hard disk.

i dont think its crap ,.. but there is certainly better. ive never had a problem with windows Xp pro,. I hear the home sucks but xp pro is fast and stable. hm... fresh install aye. that sucks. ooh well i guess ill try it and see what happens Thanks

ya, especially going with a completely different processor type (intel to amd) so everything bottom up will be changing.

You can try it, but it would be interesting

I think if I was going to try this I would backup anything important to a CD and before I did any hardware changes I would go to the registry and delete the ENUM key then shut down (do not reboot) then make my hardware changes and see what happens, since the alternative is a clean install what's to lose?

You dont have to do a reinstall for just am motherboard, just get into the Device Manager and delete anything pertaining to the motherboard. You may be able to do that with the proc too. Then again, it doesnt hurt to reinstall once in a while

you sholud definatley format when getting a new motherboard...a repair install might work but dont count on it an it will probally still not run perfect
