device manager exclamation marks.

Hell folks,

working on a friends computer and in device manager under display adapters (nvidia geforce2 mx) there is an exclamation mark and as I looked further into it it says "cannot start..error code 10". I downloaded updated drivers but still the same thing. There doesnt seem to be anything wrong with the computer right now but this exclamation mark and error code 10 has got me wondering. I want that exclamtion mark gone..lol
Any suggestions?

running windows xp pro.
10gb HDD
192mb memory
amd k6 3d processor @333mhz

Does that system have on-board video? You might need to disable it. If it's a PCI adapter, try swapping to another slot. Try clearing/resetting the CMOS.

That's all that comes to mind for now.

You might try a clean install of the Nvidia drivers after using driver cleaner.

My might have XP vid drivers still installed.

Boot to safe mode, device mgr. and remove all references to nvidia, and while you are there look for other double entries and if you find any remove both not just one. The reason for going to safe mode is you will find a lot more entries then you will in windows.

One last thought I had a machine that I dn/ld so many nvidia drivers to that it finallly gave up so as a last resort I went into the registry and deleted the ENUM key and rebooted and let it reinstall all the drivers + went to nvidis.com and got the latest drivers, not only did it fix the video problems but the system ran better then ever.
