personally, i would take off the hsf and apply some other thermal compound (AS3 is my personal favorite) and make sure u apply a very small amout: enough to cover the cpu but not too much. As for the mobo temps, the psu, cpu, and gpu are your major heat contributors because a chipset doesnt get too hot (unless OC'd) so if you eliminate the major sources, the mobo temp should go down.... a blowhole would be a good idea as mentioned earlier, having a psu with 2 fans (1 intake and 1 exhaust) will help rid some heat, and maybe a more efficient gpu cooler... but really you just need AS3 and a different HSF
*edit: and if you have a lot of hdd's, then that can generate a lot of heat (and noise) too

I have a fan on the side of my case blowing air out, a fan on top of my heatsink and cpu fan cooling it more. A fan at the front inside of my case blowing air in. A small fan on my bay drive blowing cool air in. Im runnin at 34 c right now. Not doing much.

i would recommend Arctic Silver 3 (AS3) since it does the job pretty well and being mostly silver (there was a news thread about this not too long ago)

I wouldn't really worry about those temps. They are on the high side, but its a high end chip, and you're in Hawaii.
A better HS will cool the system better. No doubt about it, but you should be ok as its within range. My PC gets above 50 on a hot day. (AthlonXP 1700@2.1ghz)
edit: Also, don't just take the side of the case off. It will screw up your airflow. You've got enough ventilation anyway.

Just wanted to thank everyone again for their input. I switched out the stock Intel HSF, ordered and installed a Swiftech MCX478-V, used Arctic Silver 5, and topped everything with a Vantec Tornado 84.1 cfm fan.
The result is that my case sounds like a vaccuum (which I already anticipated), but my temps are as follows:
- CPU: 30-33C Idle, 36-37 Full Load
- Motherboard: 29-30C Idle, 30-33 Full
Load
To me, that is a huge difference! And that's with ambient room temps of around 80-85F in Hawaii.
Thanks again...

Yeah, I know. I also bought a Thermaltake Smart Case Fan 2 (variable speed), just in case I got tired of the noise, but so far, the noise isn't toooo bad |

I can't understand some people
No offence here but I just can't understand some people. For instance the original poster looks like they spent a great deal of money on PC parts. Now why in the world would you spend thousands for your computer and have some junky 4.00 stock fan on top of your cpu..
Proper cooling is worth it considering, you can be losing your entire $2500.00 investment..
In closing, get a new CPU FAN/HEATSINK!
P.S- I noticed a poster who said their AMD1700+ is @2.1 gig.. How the heck did you manage that?

I don't have all the facts handy, but certain models of the 1700+ were extremely friendly when it came to upping the multiplier
many threads on it have been started, do a search or someone more in the know may post soon
