Kids FTP Server setup, using GuildFTP?

I'm trying to setup an FTP server on one of my extra machines at my house but I can't seem to get it to work properly. I'm not sure if it is a result of my router or my public IP address that I am not setting correctly somewhere.

I have checked my public IP address from a couple of different places on the net (http://checkip.dyndns.org/)and it always shows up as the same. I does change every couple of days but for my FTP purposes this will work fine.

Here is a link to some screenshots of my routers config page and also the GuildFTP admin page. I'm hoping someone could take a look and let me know if there is anything I can change. I can FTP the machine from inside my network (internally) using WS_FTP LE at 192.168.0.5, but I cannot FTP the machine from outside the network using my public IP address. A couple of questions I have are:

1) What does the "Real IP Address" box refer to in the GuildFTP options box as shown in my screenshot? "Public IP Address"?

2) What Port range do I need to set for the FTP Server to work? Somewhere in the documention for GuildFTP it said something like 1024 - 65535, this doesn't make sense to me. If port 21 is open what does the port range do? this is shown in the screenshot as well.

My DSL comes through a Cisco 678 Modem (I assume this is where the public IP address comes from), then it plugs into the WAN port of my D-Link DI-704 router which has a gateway IP address set to 192.168.0.1 all of my machines on my network have Static IP's 0.5 is the one I'm trying to set the FTP Server on. More explaination is on the screenshot.

Screenshot info

Any help or suggestions are appreciated,

Gary

Sometimes if you're on Windows XP, the bult-in ICF will prevent you from running an FTP server. I ran into that problem, and disabled it, and it works fine now.
EDIT: Oh, and make sure you have another firewall on before you disable the ICF (the router probably will work)

This is actually on a Windows 2000 Machine, so no firewall there. I do have Sygate running as well and have given it access to let GuildFTP do it's thing.

Somehow I'm not granting the right IP address the right port to go through is what I'm thinking. Just as a test I set that machine on the DMZ zone in my D-Link router just to see If I could log into it that way. Still no go. Somehow I must not be putting in the right Public IP address somewhere in the admin section of GuildFTP is the only thing I can think of. Gonna play with it some more today. Give me any more tips If you think of them.

It could aslo have something to do with Passive vs. active FTP connecting. What is the difference and how would I know when to use what? I use WS_FTP as my FTP Client and currently is set to connect in passive mode.

I know this thread is old, but I thought I'd update it. I got it figured out after trying every ftp program out there including linux. The reason it wouldn't work is because of my DSL modem

I was running the older cisco 678 so I was getting a public IP from that and it was passing another IP to my router. I was opening up the right ports in my router, but since I was trying to ftp through 2 different addresses I was running into problems.

I called qwest ordered up an actiontec newer model GT701 (they did away with the 1520 series) configured it, started up GuildFTP and it worked perfectly. Basically my modem is now a part of my router so I'm only dealing with 1 IP address to go through.

Anyway, It's working just thought I'd update this post for posterity in case anyone else runs into an issue and does a search on google or something.
