Compaq Recovery Disk

I was thinking of reformatting my hard drive, but I'm not exactly sure if I should, or can. I am currently running Windows XP, and was going to use the Compaq Recovery cd to restore the system back to factory default.

I backed up, what I think is everything, and then restarted my comp with the CD in the drive. When the cd started loading it said "Starting Windows 98..." and then entered into the menu screen. The Windows 98 thing kinda freaked me out, so I have decided to hold off on this until I know a little more info.

Do I need a WinXP Installation cd? Would restoring to factory default change my OS to Win98? Is there any more detailed info about the restoring process which will make things more clear?

Also, I have heard of a second cd which COMPAQ has which actually has the stuff needed to actually restore your comp. Any info on that would be great too.

Thanks.

No, it's the right disk. It enters into the screen with the 5 options, "1. Emergency Disk,2. User Backup,3. User Restore, 4. Factory Restore,5. Exit." But before that screen it says it starting Windows 98 with some other stuff.

The COMPAQ model is 5321 SR. Windows XP was already installed when I got it.

Thanks for the welcome.
