Floppy Prob

just built a friend a pc for his daughter
SOYO case ,mobo,
300 watt ps
PIII 800
13.5 HDD
128 mb pc133
cdrom
windows 98se
sony FDD (the prob child)
sweet little cow, boots in 43 sec.

now here is my prob.
it gives ((NOT READY)) ERROR
(A Drive is not accessible)
Ive tried 4 floppies , two are new, two are known good
four diff ribbons,with red line on pin one
the light comes on when booting then goes off
in MY COMPUTER when rt clicking on the A drive it lights up
but when i try to explore it reports the error
In BIOS it is set active

I would say floppy controller EXCEPT

This is the second PC I built last week with different mainboards
cases and ps . I had the same EXACVT thing with the first one????
loosing my mind or what ?

Any Ideas folks?

Can you boot from the Win98 boot disk?
What does Device Manager say about the Floppy drive?
Are there any other settings in the BIOS for the floppy drive?

Is the connector correct on the MB?

You might go to safe mode, device mgr. and remove all references to the floppy and its controller, reboot and let it reinstall. just a thought.

Device Mrg.reports no problem with the controller or the drive
The IRQ for the controller is 6 with no conflicts
The only fly in the ointment in the device mrg is a flag on
SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus(but I think thats to do with Hibernation?)

connector is correct #1 pin corresponds to red edge of ribbon , and I loaded windows on a newly formatted HDD by just using the Win 98 disk

removed floppy controller and floppy drive from device mrg,
and rebooted.
PNP grabbed it and loaded everything and it all works now!
