Outdoors HELP! Winxp wont install ATI Radeon 7000 vid card!

heyal,

I built a system which is a Intel P4 1.8 ghz with 768 ddr ram, ATI Radeon 7000 vid card, 2 hd's 1x20gig and 1x 60gig, 1cdrw and 1 floppy. Running WinXp, no internet connection so no updates can be done.

I have tried and tried and tried to install the ATI Radeon Drivers but winxp fails to utilize the *.inf files or the setup from the driver program. I've tried both auto and when doing that I get error msg [dayuuum now i forgot what msg was] but saying its incomplete & to use generic vga before setup.

when trying to do it manually by adding hardware-select from list it shows ati but only the rages and all in wonder and some max fury brand. when trying to use the "have disk" i point it to the directories with the .inf files and nothing shows up in list. I 've tried to right click inf files and click install but that doesnt seem to help.

when trying to play game thats installed get error message to check dx version or that video card is compatible.

Please help! i've tried everything i can think of with no luck.

any help is greatly appreciated,

thank you,
southern belle

Remove all drivers for your display card and reboot your machine and allow WinXP to install the VGA drivers.

Now go and use the setup program for the ATI card.

Cheers!

You may need to use winzip to extract the files from the ati file (even if its a EXE file) to a new folder. Then manually install the drivers. When asked for the location, point to the folder you just created. I had to do it this way on several occasions.

heyal,

well this responds to:

re: removing all drivers for card ...they're are none except the directory where the exe file expands for installation. I have previously removed that too but still no luck.

re: expanding exe and point windows to file...i've done this and tried to manually install but still no luck.

re: need help ....OH YES INDEED I DO NEED YOUR HELP! lol

keep posting and I'll keep trying.

oh there is no display adapters listed in the device manager and couldnt get windows to list right one.

the drivers for xp are from ati website.

thanks so very much, i'll keep checking back for new posts.

Maybe it's one of those 1.5/3.0 voltage issues? The card is one voltage but the mobo can only handle the other..
