Win2k + locked = no monitor off
Hello all,
When Windows 2000 is locked, the monitor wont go into standby.
Is there anyway to make it?
Thanks |

I'm assuming you've done this but have you checked your Power settings?
Also, are you running a screensaver? I've noticed that sometimes my screensaver won't come on in XP Pro.

when you say locked...you mean what exactly??
enabling a password-protected screensaver or manually locking the console via ctrl-alt-del does not prevent the display from going into standby.
it sounds like your problem is power related (apm/acpi).

Yep, if I leave the PC unlocked after 20 min the screen will power off like it should. Nope, no screensaver on.

Have you just tried creating a new "power scheme" with the same settings? I know that shouldn't fix it but.... At least I'd try it anyway.

Ok I saved the settings as a new power scheme, ill check in 20 mins (doh, guess I could have made it 1).
Could this have anything to do with not haveing the proper Nvidia driver installed. (Thats a different thread) I only have the windows default Viper550 driver on.

did you try changing the power setting to turn off monitor after 1 minute? first disable the screensaver before you test.

Oh well after some messing around with the apps in my system tray, it turns out that it was my wallpaper changer winwall not letting the monitor go off. I dont have this problem when running it on XP, I wonder whats different?
EDIT: So are there any little apps that can turn the monitor off for me, sense windows dosent want to do it?
