High Quality!

hi...
i want to know that is there any software that can actually enlarge pics without losing quality? pixels?
i mean if you take a normal 100x100 pic...... if i enlarge it too 400x400 it will get blured and noisy........ so is there anyway to enlarge pics without losing their quality in photoshop or some other software?
Thanks

well not really... you can make it look a bit better by adding noise and sharpening the image..

but from 100x100 to 400x400 forget about it,...

Try printing it at the size it is, glossy paper, highest resolution, then rescan the image into your computer at a larger size. Depending on how nice your scanner is, you should be able to keep the image fairly clear.

prison kids idea could work. the problem with just resizing is that each individual pixel will be split into multiple pixels, each being the same color as the first. so the overall appearance looks like big blocks instead of smooth lines. scanning a nice printout at a larger size could fix that because scanning it at the larger size will take those blocks of pixels and "redraw" (for lack of better words) them as lines instead of blocks

sorry if that is confusing, if so just do as PK said...

Interesting idea PK but I'm not so sure it would work. If you had a low resolution image, say 100x100 pixels, the only way to print it with no pixel distortion would be to print it at a 1:1 scale. If your printer did 600dpi then that image would print really, really small, less than a 1/4 inch square.

If you enlarged it when printing it then that's just the same as enlarging it with Photoshop or any other application.

If the pixel data is not there, you can't get more pixel data out of thin air. Short of skilled touch up by hand there's not much you can do.

If the image is simple in nature, like a logo, then you can usually just recreate it (preferably using vectors) and make it whatever size you need it.

There is a program (plug-in) called Genuine Fractals that claims to let you resize images to whatever scale with no loss. The problem with this is for the product to work as claimed you need to begin with an already mid- to high-quality image, say a 5-10MB TIF file (NO JPGs of any type) and indeed it'll let you scale up the image to a 100-300MB file with minimal loss in quality. But when you try the same thing using smaller files the effect is less than stellar.

yeah, like Out said, Genuine Fractals will do it, but you need a pretty decent file to begin with...crappy file in, crappy file out.

Not without losing quality.

Instead of trying to stretch the images to fill the screen maybe you could use multiple images to make a collage or just use a large border about some images.
