oversized harddrive problem

Hi guys. I'm having trouble trying to get my 250gb maxtor to show up as a actualy 250gb hdd or up. I'm on windows 2000 pro and already on sp4. Here's the list of things i did so far and a pic of the partitions i have right now in partition magic if that helps. Thanks.

1) Installed Windows 2000 on a 15gb partition taken from the 250gb total.

2) installed sp4 for windows 2000.

3) installed partiton magic pro 7 and saw only the following picture. It shows the additional other 120 or gigs in the blue area and not pink. Partiton magic only let me make a 113gb partition.

Please help me out here guys! I bought a 250gigger for no reason if i can't use the other 100gb! Thanks for any help.

Did you get a PCI card with your drive? You'll need a ATA133 card that knows how to address that much space, right now your computer doesnt know how to see past 120Gigs. This is a hardware problem, not software.

Hope that helps

I don't get what you're saying though. My mobo is a abit nf7-s and it already has ata133 with it onboard. And no, the 250gb drive is not in a sata port.

From what I remeber of fat32 limitations.....

Need NTFS for SINGLE partition over 120gig or so. You can have two partitions and use in 2k. Or use 1 with ntfs and XP.

If I read you correctly. You need to add another pci card :ata133 for the maxter 200 gig to work. The maxter software will let me partition the hd prior to installation. XP does not see this operation and wants to format on 32 gig. Now the system see only 32 gig of the 200g system. Do we have to start all over again after installing the ata133 or will it see the hd and allow me to format further. The software that maxter loads for XP will not allow you to format any further past what windows has performed. E-Mail me please. I may not be able to get back to this forum on this computer. jwalton@jkwenterprise.com.

tks.
