Cable through DI-713p

I've got a Cable connection running through a D-link DI-713p router. When I hook my modem directly to the PC I get DL speeds of around 3400kbps. When I go through the router the DL speed drops to around 2400kpbs. I've tried using both static and DHCP for the LAN addressing, but it didn't make a difference.
Whats happening here?

do you have the latest firmware installed onto the routers?

where are you doing the speed test?

Yes I have the latest firmware. I do most of the testing at DSLReports, however I get the same results regardless of where I test, through the router is significantly slower than not.
