Nero - should Ibuyit?
I got Nero (something edition) with an I/O Magic R/W drive last year and it was a disaster. I am/was used to the Direct CD (Drag-to-Disc) feature of Adaptec (now Roxio) and the Nero I had wouldn't do that, nor would it let me erase a file from a R/W disc.
Does any newer edition of Nero support Drag-to-Disc through the Windows Explorer interface?
I'm not interested in disc-at-once writes no matter how good one thinks the feature is so let's stick to discussing dragging individual files to the CD to be written to, please.
Roxio has gone bonkers and I can't even format a CD-R anymore. I'm beginning to suspect my CD-RW drive has gone bad, but I've had it for only 4 months.
I'm using Windows XP with the latest updates. My R/W drive is a Sony CRX225A and drivers are current. I've scrubbed my Registry of all error-causing keys. I've tried Roxio Basic 5x (it used to work just fine all the time) and Roxio ECDC 6 Platinum (it worked exactly once). I've burned more coasters in the last three days than in the last four years and it's driving me crazy!
Some people love Nero and swear by it, but I don't want to get it and find that I'm stuck with a turkey that won't work on my system or do what I want it to do.
Constructive comment will be appreciated.
End of rant... thanks.

Welcome to TechIMO
Nero has a demo version, you can try it for a couple of days.
If you like it buy it
Good to see people still like to support the companies!

I downloaded Nero demo, installed it and was able to burn one disc, but it groaned a lot. I finally removed my Sony R/W drive and replaced it with a new one today using its bundled Roxio ECDC software. I haven't gotten into it deeply yet, but it seemed to perform as it was supposed to for formatting a CD-R disc. I HOPE the drive replacement solves the problem The Sony drive was only 5 months old. My previous Iomega drive lasted more than three years.
Nero looks pretty good - a far cry from the dinky thing I got last year. It also looks like overkill, but I suppose all the other stuff is needed if I ever get into doing DVDs.

One thing to remember is that Nero and Roxio don't play nice together when installed in the same system. It's best to use Nero alone. |

2 cents..
I got Nero for free about 1 month ago when I bought my Lite-On CD-RW drive.
I think it is an AWSOME program. Does everything.
When I bought my DVD-RW drive, it came with it's own software, but that stuff sucked. Luckily, NERO detected the new drive and now I have a DVD tab that does tons of cool DVD stuff. It's simply awsome, to drag an aVI into nero and it converts/ and burns it for you into DVD.
I love it!

I just started using NERO 6 Ultra Edition on my new NEC DVD 8X burner. I love it! It meets all my needs, and works great with DVD Shrink. Burned both CD and DVD media with no problems.

Depends on what exactly you need to do. I use Nero 5.5 and Alcohol120%.

Today I purchased Nero 6 Ultra Edition after using their fully functional demo for about a week. Top-notch product. Worth every penny. It handles ALL my disk handeling needs. I really can't see anybody using their demo, and not wanting to own the package. With Nero and DVD Shrink, I don't need anything else. I haven't made a single coaster with this package combo.
