welcome to techimo.

spec-wise that computer will run just about about every windows OS under the sun if it comes w/512bm ram.

personally, i would install win2000 on it but it can do XP as well. do you have a preference?

Welcome to TechIMO

sure you can install an OS

its fairly easier but it varies for the OSes.... like i would say WinXP is easier to install than 98

and i think this might be your question as well.... yes you can buy an OS and install it on a computer... go to a site like www.TigerDirect.com or www.newegg.com .... with those specs i would go with Win98SE

hope this answered your question

Yeah I would prolly run 98SE or even ME.I would think it would be really sluggish with XP on it.I have that setup almost exactly other than mine has 128mb ram,and it runs great with Windows ME.It does good with 98SE too,but ME has a few more frills that are nice.

Well for 50 bucks you have a computer that you can put an OS on.

Your choice.

Bill

you would first need to check the bios to make sure the boot order is the following: 1)floppy drive, 2(cdrom, 3)hard disk

the bios can be accessed by hitting a hotkey (usually a function key (like f1) or the Del key). turn on the machine and watch the screen carefully, the bios hotkey should be displayed briefly.

after the bios is set, you should probably repartiton & reformat the drive. if you are planning to install win200 or xp, the cd will do this during setup. win9x will require a few extra steps.

still no word on which OS you plan to reinstall on it.

You may need to enter the BIOS and set it to boot off of the CD, otherwise you can use a boot disk and lauch the installer from the CD-ROM directly.

That should install any windows OS you would like to put on there.
