Mandrake 9.2 and ATI driver problem

Hey guys, i got tired of messn with debian so i got Mandrake 9.2
installing was a breeze, and was all rdy to go.

I tried to play a game (tuxracer) and noticed it was choppy and the sound was weird too, so i figured duh, probly need the radeon drivers.

wet to ati's site picked linux and it gave me 3 options
xfree68 4.1.0 4.2.0 4.3.0

tried all 3 of em and all 3 of em dont install cause after i hit ok on th first window a second one pops up sayen that there was a issue or incompatibility with a file.

I read some manuals and it sais i might have to get an update of xfree86, si i went to their download servers, and looked around found a few version and installed one, after i went through all the console stuff it went back to the command line, i switched back to GUI but still same error, i thought maybe i need to reboot, after i was back at the logon screen for mandrake my kboard wasned working i had to restart the xserver in the options mode, then it worked now i enter my logon and pw get a black screen and get put back into the logon screen, now im thinking maybe the version of xfree86 i got isned compatible and now it wont launch.

So now i got 2 problems, 1. how do i get it back to the base xfree86 so i can boot the gui again, and 2. how do i go on about installing the radeon drivers?

Anyone in here have a ATI card and uses mandrake? if so PM me and lemme know how ya did it.

THX

Yote

If you have the Mandrake 9.2 Powerpack edition the ATI drive is an RPM on one of the CDs -installs with ease.
