Wireless question

Hey I was wondering if I get this Netgear Wireless Router and I have the computer I am using it for like 30ft away through the floor (It would be upstairs with 1 computer and the other computer is downstairs) would I get good pings and stuff on games? I mean would it slow my connection way down? Also what do u guys recommend as a good inexpensive ethernet card? TY

I had my access point two floors down and it was still acceptable.
It would drop on occasion, but most times it was good
I brought up one floor and my connection is great now

You'll have no problems with that.

agreed ethernet nics are for PC purposes all the same for the most part.. I'd just go towards brand you've at least heard of to make sure its not going to die in 2 weeks.

My friends have these wireless router made my Netgear and they are very good. Good qualtity and documentation. Their drivers are also very stable and easy to configure settings on this wireless router
If you want to go gaming with wireless, I recommend you get a 54g router like, Apple Airport Extreme or a 802.11g router. Also, to take advantage of the higher speed, you will need 802.11g wireless adapters too. But 802.11b is still fast enough. I play unreal tournement 2003 with other people on the internet and still have a good ping and speed

Ok do I really need the 802.11g? Will it increase speeds by that much? I really want good ping timings but is it worth the extra money? TY

Send a message via AIM to Reknup
MITADC... 802.11b runs @ 11mpbs.

So if you have a connection running to your house faster then 11mbps, theres no need for G type Wireless Networking.

I have B, and I ping game servers as I would directly connected. It doesnt make a difference...

The only time you'll need G is if you do heavy file transfers over the network...
For anything regarding the internet you'll have nothing to worry about as most cable modems are <=1.5 MB.. and FEW reaching > 3mbit... and wireless is on average 5-10 depending on signal strength.
