Food Sound Problems?

recently installed a new Mobo a ASrock K7VTA-4X which the on board sound is 5.1 ac97 Audio.
Windows 98 sounds are all ok, start up sound etc etc, but when i go to play a disc in windows media and also tried the multi- media cd player that comes with windows ......it plays the cd but no sound.
Now i know its not the cd as i copied the cd onto the HD and tried to play still no sound, even though the cd shows up in the media player as playing just no sound!.
I checked all options in media player to accept all type of files, so thats not the problem.
Lastly i right clicked on the copied media to my hd and it shows the file as a CDC? never seen this format .........anyone??

Here's what you might need to do (although I'm not sure it is the same as in WinXP):

Right click on your CD-Rom drive in Windows Explorer. Go find the hardware properties for the CD-Rom drive. There should be a Checkbox that says "Enable Digital CD audio for this device" next to it. Check that.

Or you could just connect the CD-Rom Cd-Out to the motherboard's CD-In if there is one.
