9600XT installation problems help!
For some god awful reason my somewhat new video card died, a Radeon 9600PRO.
I recently replaced it with a 9600XT only to have the same symptoms. After waiting a day I turn my computer back on an voila it boots up straight into windows and I install the drivers. After installing the drivers it requests a restart and i press continue. After restarting I get to the Windows XP (pro) loading screen but thats as far as I get, about the time the windows login screen should pop up the screen goes dark, but the computer doesn't turn off. The monitor doesn't seem to complain about any extra high resolutions or anything either.
Help?
System - AMD Athlon 2600+ || Radeon 9600XT || 768 PC2700 memory || EPoX mobo (can't remember the model number but I reset the bios when the 9600pro died so everything is set at the default.)

Try booting into Safe Mode by pressing F8 right after the boot screen and uninstall anything that could be affecting your video card, like overclocking tweaks, and see if anything happens on a normal boot of XP.

The way my bios is set up there isn't a safe mode... I have 4 hardware configurations but each one I try does the exact same thing.

I got the system for christmas (custom built) and thats when the 9600PRO was put in. Currently, I have the 9600XT in, with i suppose the drivers from the CD.
I have 3 sticks of 256 DDR PC2700 RAM filling my 3 RAM slots (i know i know, i told the guy i wanted 768 and thats what i got.) I've tested each memory stick and they work fine as far as i can
tell.
AMD Athlon 2600+ (currently set to run at "optimal" or 1.4Ghz)
the bios is AwardBios v6.00PG (sound right?)
EP-8RDA+ is the label of the motherboard and its by EPOX.
I don't know the name of the power supply.. i might be able to tell you later.
anything else?
Also.. just to help you understand my bios settings:
When I start up it does the memory check etc. and gives me the option to change the BIOS settings... it then switches over to a screen where it gives me the option of booting different hardware configurations (Default, Safe, Gaming, Overclock) but right now they all do the same thing (check first post.)

Powersupply! My sis's pc I RE-built her just did this. It needed to sit for loooong time then would boot. She never told me of course till it WOULDNT POWER ON AT ALL. Errr. Sorry. Then after about 2 weeks it now wont even spin the psu fan when testing outta case. new psu-right back in buis. Her's was a cheapo 300watter. With onbaord video 1600+ cpu 512mb pc2700 one hdd and on cdrom a 56k modem and built in usb/sound. Not much-but it stil killed the 3 year old cheap psu. LOL. Your new video is hogging what psu overhead you HAD and now your are most likely at the edge of what it can handle. THats dangerous! "Pop"

Alright I got into safe mode and uninstalled all my ATI drivers, started a normal windows and it booted up correctly at 640x480. I install the new video card + new catalyst drivers again and yet again windows won't load. I've tried a few different versions of the drivers but I can't get anywhere. I've tried reinstalling the MOBO drivers as well. I'm thinking its the card... graahhhh
