Welcome to reality. You don't notice how crap games console, VHS or similar output actually is until you've seen it displayed on the really good tubes used in computer monitors. TV sets have much worse tubes, larger dot pitch, much less focus, slow-fading phosphor, all that. They're made to make a low bandwidth signal look good. Your computer monitor is made to make a high bandwidth signal look good - and in consequence, you'll see all the weaknesses of low bandwidth inputs.

Also wanted to point out that, if you try to connect the PC to the TV, the output is crappy if you use like s-video or composite ports.
I think the only clear way to use a tv as a monitor is if your TV has a VGA video in.

actually the output using svideo is not TOO bad, except for the fact that i cant read anything on the screen without using the magnifier program.

Whenever I connect my pc to my tv it has a large wave in the center, the trapazoid shape is messed, and the whole desktop doesn't show up, it's like the moire reduction, trapazoid adjust and zoom need to be altered on the TV but there is no way to do that is there? Can you do it through windows somehow? Is it just my TV, it's a new Sharp flatscreen TV?

my brother likes to watch vcd's through his computer and on his tv. it doesnt look good unless he lowers the computer resolution to 640x480.

I use 720*576 to watch avi`s, play games etc. Fills the screen.
