K7S5A recommended memory not found

Hi I went to elite groups website, the memory they re commend I can not find (http://www.cmtlabs.com/mbCertPartSea...oSubmit=Search)

I've heard that this board is very finicky about memory, I want to upgrade to 2x512 (1Gig)

what brand that is readily available, and won't make my board choke, it's been said that this board don't even like some of the better brands

I was going to get crucial, suggestions and funny comments welcome

I have a K7S5A rev.# 4. I've run Apacer, Crucial and generic memory with no problems.
What is a problem is that the memory slots are tight. You need to brace the board, so it doesn't flex to much, and work the memory in and out of its prospective slot a few times.

What these boards are really notorious for is showing all sort of weird problems when attached to cheap power supplies.

Good Luck wallie_x

Crucial RAM definately works with the K7S5A. I've had a 256 MB and a 512 MB in a V1 (2 weeks after the board was originally released) and a V3 board, no problems at all. In fact, I've had the DDR133 (266) CAS 2.5 running at DDR 147 CAS 2 for a long time. In other words, just go buy some crucial and you'll be fine.

Thanx, I was leaning toward crucial, leaning so far I was almost laying down LOL cheapest price I've found and a reliable brand

Maybe I was just looking for acceptance from my peers.

But I'm positive I read n more than one place a about picky memory, PSU too

Thanx again, anyone else????

I've used Kingston and Corsair on the few K7S5A boards I've built. I never tried any other brands, though, since those two are the brands I trust most.

I have built a couple of rigs with this board , no problem with cheap psu or memory , last one I used some compusa generic memory . Two weak spots of this board : the northbrige heatsink is held on with doublesided tape and virually no heat transfer . The heatsink can be twisted off , cleaned up and put back on with some thermal paste in the middle and glue on the 4 corners .
Other weak spot is the little battery , for some reason it tends to go out early on and needs replacing .
Other than that great little board .

I think that that's actually a common error message on this board. I got that message all the time but as soon as I installed an OS onto the hard drive it stopped showing up. If you only have one memory module you can try swapping it into the other slot, it worked for one of my builds.
