Outdoors Direct Connection Help!

Got a laptop that has a lot of information on it and want to send that information to my desktop pc.
I got a serial connection and set it up on the LPT1 ports, then used the connection wizard to connect up, Desktop being the guest and the laptop the Host.
I see the connection no problem but dont see any files? i go to network places on my Guest (desktop) but its blank?. The files on the host i have checked to make sure they are set up for File sharing....what am i missing?

Sorry but very new to this i guess i must be missing something but frustration is setting in and i want some hair left at the end of the day...anyone can help?

I'm not sure if this has anythin to do with it, but LPT 1 is a parallel port.

Send a message via Yahoo to Dax_Brandy
what OS is installed in your laptop and PC?

make sure that you are using the cable for direct cable connection using the parallel port...but it seems your connection is fine..

make sure also that you share one of the drives or folders in your laptop using the properties tab.. you can see an option there "share as.."

Yes you can transfer files through a serial or parallel connection.
You said you were using a serial connection on LPT1.
I know that can't be done. so I thought you might be using a parralel cable, and telling the transfere program it is a serial connection instead of parallel

The parallel cable has to be a cross over Parallel cable

The yellow one that comes with PC Anywhere is a cross over cable.
The kind that are used with printer switches, can be plugged it to both parallel ports, but won't work, because they are not cross over.
