DAT Tape unit question!

I'm currently using a Dat tape unit that runs 4 GB DDS2 tapes at 60MB/min. and I wanna buy a new DAT Tape unit that will run 20/40 GB DDS4 tapes at 330MB/min. Are these new DAT Tape units backwards compatible? I got LOTS of 4 GB tapes and would like to keep using them! Thanks in advance!

I believe that tapes are indeed backwards compatible, but it is 'best practice' to use the proper tapes.

A phase out would be fine

(I do it on my DDS3)

All modern DAT drives are capable of reading any of the earier tapes that have been formated on earlier drives
