Reformat , now can't connect to p2p program

I re-installed a p2p program after reformating, and now it just says "connecting" and never does? Sounds to me like a setting somewhere was changed when I reformatted?? Am I on the right track?? Have any idea what could it be??

Thanks

Any chance you have a firewall installed or are running an OS firewall? You might be preventing communication on the relevant port?

Post more about exactly which program you are using and which network you are trying to connect to...

not enough info from you

Actually I have tried several programs since I reformatted. Kazaa, (which I had originally), Morpheus, Limewire, Napster and a few others. I have my firewall and antivirus prog. turned off when I'm trying to connect. Didn't make a difference. Napster says I'm not connected to the internet, but I am. I can get on IE just fine. I've had a radio station locator and player and it will not connect either. Never had this problem until I reformatted. I'm not really sure what other info you might need. I am running Windows XP. (The built in firewall is off) Thank you all, Chuppet

Perhaps when you reinstalled, your NIC's driver wasn't yet installed and the network stack priority got hosed.

Try going to your Internet Explorer options, Connections tab, then click the Setup button and reconfigure your network access type.

I hope you don't have AOL installed with the AOL network adapter running. That will hose up the network stack every time.

By the way, Kazaa, Morpheus, Limewire, and Napster are loaded with spyware, and will install new spyware on your system without your knowledge.

I strongly urge you to look at a solution utilizing KazaaLite (no relation to actual Kazaa), or eMule. KazaaLite got busted down for some stupid foreign legality claim, but you can find old versions of it at http://www.oldversion.com/
