Ad-aware finds what spybot won't

I run spybot and ad-aware

most times after runing spybot I run ad-aware and it will find 9 or more entries, why?

once I ran ad-aware and it opened a file to scan and then NAV popped up a virus waring
I had recently did a virus scan and NAV said I was clean. So by ad-aware opening what it opened NAV was able to detect it, so much for NAV too LOL

I've been using spybot and ad-aware for about 2 years or more and configured each to what I feel is the best configuration

Have I started to babble......

They are known to work as a team, not sure exactly why though...neither one detects all the spyware on its own. Yes, you're babbling...knock it off!

Geesh, you've been using them both for over 2 years and still don't know why you need both?

Actually I've been saving that question/babble, another thread reminded me of it, oh actually 2 threads

one about a dialer and the other about " there are no stupid question"

only stupid bosses? lottery tickets?(the ones that don't win)

but it was cool that ad-aware put the smackdown on NAV, for me

Anyone else?
wait wait there was something else, no maybe not, but there could be, but maybe i'm not telling, maybe i don't even know, maybe i'll start a thread

Must be an airforce thing, if I knew then what I know now maybe I would have reenlisted

The file that AdAware opened was probably a virus encoded into an installer program. NAV couldn't recognize it until it was opened and decoded (read something about it on a security website, but my mind fails me as to where at the moment )

Good to know, and I'm checking for updates for both ad-aware and spybot on a more regular basis

also running zone alarm ( free version )

I've always found Spybot finds stuff that Adaware doesn't... I guess it just depends what gets installed onto your system without your knowledge.

They work as a team, one will always pick up on some that the other misses.

Something else to keep in mind:

Spyware writers can install IE plugins that will execute on IE startup, and perform functions with the current user's privs.

Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files

All you should have (normally) are the Update Class (Windows update), Shockwave, Quicktime, or any other well-known web-enabled apps you use.

Anything else is generally spyware. The spyware scanners fail to identify them and remove them due to the random nature of their ID generation.

Check this out also the IE address can be hijacked:

http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthr...941#post995941

I thought about it and decided to add this :

Approx date first sighted: January 11, 2004
Log reference: http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index...673&hl=nkvd\.us
Symptoms: IE hijacked to nkvd.us and smart-finder.biz, redirections to nkvd.us and smart-finder.biz when typing incomplete URLs into address bar.
