Does your ISP provide any free webspace?? ALmost all isp's now give you 1mb or 10mb of free web space for a personal webpage.

Also usually you can have several email addresses with most ISP accounts.

Carl,

So may questions from such a young lad!!!

1. There are heaps of free web hosting providers around but unfortunately you will have to have banners or pop ups of one kind or another.

Nothings free in life.

There are a few that dont have banner ads but they sell domain name registration inssead and you have to register with them to use their hosting. Keep in mind that banner ads are much better to have than popups.
I use www.netfirms.com for my free websites.
Your best bet here is to do a Google on free web hosting.

2. No its not easy and yes it will take you long hours into the night and even the next day or 6. You have three options for designing your own website.
a. Learn html from scratch (www.htmlgoodies.com) then use notepad to do your code. (This would be the hardest way but the only way to go if you truely want to learn website design.)
b. Use a WYSIWYG webdesign program like hotdog, coffee cup etc. (try download.com look for their html section.)
These are easier than coding manually but will still have a large learning curve to learn the program.
c. Many of the web host providers have templates that you can use to setup your site. This would be the easiest way to go but you dont really learn html and you are limited by your template design.

3. You should get your own e-mail address with most of the web hosts even with free hosts although some only offer webmail services. However keep in mind that unless you register a domain name your website name will be something like www.webhost.com/32~5lk/username and so will your e-mail address. If you register your domain name which is quite cheap these days your e-mail address can be anything@domainname.com and your website address would be www.domainname.com

Im at work at the moment but will post some links to some good web hosts etc when I get home.

Hope this helps.

Carl,

1. This is all you need for HTML:

http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp

2. At this point, stay away from FrontPage. Its HTML solutions are a mess.

3. When you're ready, hunt down AceHTML5 to make your life a little easier. There's a free version, and it works very well.

Hope it helps, and stick with it

dont even bother with Frontpage, Dreamweaver is alittle bit more difficult. I would learn the basics first tho, because sometimes you need to go into dreamweaver and fix some code.

It takes time to learn this, but keep at it and you will eventually get it. Look into using photoshop to create layouts of your webpage.

After you get comforterable with HTML, to start a website all you need is a pen an paper. Here you will draw out what you are interested in creating

There are many wysiwyg [what you see is what you get] web page authoring programs. These are a much more cut and paste type deal and many have templates for you to start with. They are a good place to start and then you can tweak the page with html code. I started with Netscape Composer which is in the Netscape Commmunicator suite. Some Office programs include this capability also.

I was glad to find this thread because I too am new at this and want to put up a web site on my free 1and 1 domain.

Rusty4x4,
Thanks for posting about the W3 school. After I read your post I went there and tried it out. I actually enjoyed it. This is the best way to learn html that I have ever experienced. Now I have hope that I will have the patience to learn it.
