HELP!!!!!!!!!

MY WORK COMPUTER IS ILL. I'm running XP Pro, made a big boo-boo that I can fix if I can get into a DOS mode.

I need to boot into DOS to access the second hard drive in my computer (D) so I can fix the boot.ini file. The boot.ini file is for some strange reason on my D drive and it was renamed to doot.ini and I need to change it back to boot.ini, also need edit the file and remove the REM on one of the lines.

HELP!!!!!!!!!! There's no way to get into DOS withut loading XP Pro and XP Pro won't boot until I fix the boot.ini file!!!

Try this website,

http://www.bootdisk.com/

That will allow you to creat a boot floppy that you can put in your work computer to make the necessary changes.

Hope that helps you out.

Thats what the "recovery console" is for....boot off the XP cd and choose the "R" for "repai console". It is SOMEWHAT similar to a dos mode...but it is a little more limited etc.

Well the thing is....will a regular old dos bootdisk even read nfts stuff?

I think you need a special ntfs utility thingy to read ntfs files from a bootdisk...I have seen links but never messed with them yet

Recovery console does not allow access to second drive. I found this info on the web, not sure if it will work.

The Elder Geek

Sure worth a try. The problem is teh boot.ini file on the work computer. So I have copied the files from my home PC (XP Pro) onto the floppy drive and hopefully that will boot me into XP.

Wish me luck.

It's BACK!!

I got my computer to boot, YIPPEE!! Feeling like a hero right now.

Okay, now I have to know why my boot records are on drive D and not on C?? How can I move the boot records from D to C? My D drive is an old and slow hard drive and I want it gone. It has done nothing but make my life miserable!! But, for soem reason windows put the boot records on D instead of C??
