Sun Java plugin refuses to work with IE6

I seem to have done everything right. I installed latest sun JRE and updated IE. Java works fine outside browser, and also works perfectly fine in Firebird. In ie when a applet is downloaded see just a 'x'. In IE options I checked of Use Sun Java and unchecked MS Java. Anyone can give advice how to fix the problem ?
