Kids WinXpPro. Disk cleanup starts but wont run. Need help

I have WinXpPro on a dualie board running 2 mp1600 amd"s and a asus board. I have been trying to run disk cleanup. It starts but hangs, performance monitor inducates both cpu's at 100%. I Have checked microsofts knowledge base, but got no tips there. Was wondering if anyone hear has had the problem.
