Systems How to setup a web/ftp server behind a linksys befsx41 router

I am trying to get my server up and running but, for some reason I can find it on my lan but not from a computer outside of my network. I am running windows 2003 and iis 6.0. I have done port forwarding and have dhcp still enabled on the linksys router.

You have two options. You can set a static IP to the server and forward all port 80 requests to that particular IP, or, you can install a firewall on the machine and DMZ the IP of the server.

With the port forwarding setup, only web requests will be forwarded to the server, while using DMZ will forward all incoming requests to that particular machine. Additionally, the DMZ option will not have access to the screening capacities of the Linksys router.

Kids

I have set up the server with a firewall on the dmz port but for some reason unless i am already behind the linksys router my webserver cannot be found. I think it has something to do with my iis settings too but i do not no what i have only been working trying to run a server for about 2 weeks now.

Two things you might want to check: I believe you need to forward both ports 20 and 21 in order to get FTP to work behind a router; and on my old netgear router, I actually had to change a factory setting that caused the router to automatically drop all incoming FTP traffic. This setting wasn't accessible thru the web-based management software, I had to telnet in to get to it. Hope this helps.

What particular router are you using?

That'll give us some more info to work with.

Also, try opening ports 21 and 80 on the firewall that you've installed on the server.
