Opera 7.1 NB ?’s

Based on the recommendations provided here I decided to give Opera a try. I have to say that I like the speed of the browser verses Explorer and I also like the interface better. I decided to give it a two-week trial and see if I am hooked.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I have two burning questions. First- is there a way to set the display properties default. I am an old-school Internet user (the days of Delphi, Gopher, Veronica, alt.net etc.) and like the “User Mode” that emulates the text browser and would like for all pages to default to that. I would also like to set the page size to something less than 100% by default. It is weird I know but I happen to like it.

Secondly, I am having trouble accessing the company site where we update job status of open jobs. I can see everything but when I go to update, for some reason the updates do not post. I also have had problems accessing secure sites such as Wells Fargo. Is there a setting or something that I am missing?

Thx.

PS when I tried to post this thread using Opera the thread would not post. I had to use IE.

Preference of User Mode
File --> Preferences --> Page Style
Choose User Mode
If you have "Emulate Text Browser" the next time you open Opera it should be set correctly.

The other problems with SSL sites (secure) I'm not sure, I generally never experienced any problems specifically with SSL sites.
Certainly not TechIMO.
I have emulate text browser set now, and will see if it has problems posting.

-- edit ---
No problems posting in text mode.
I'm using Opera 7.23
What version are you using?

Don't forget to look into Mouse Gestures!! (check Opera Help)
Once you get used to those, you won't be able to use anything else
They greatly increase browsing speed.

I upgraded to 7.23, installed Java and made the preference changes. Now I am happy. Thanks.

Good Idea to upgrade java to 1.4.2_03

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/win_manual.jsp

Fixes some glitch in the previous version(maybe security;don't remember). I believe 7.5 comes with 1.4.2_03

You may want to run both 7.5 beta & 7.23. 7.5 version is quite different and probably contains many features that will debut in the next release.
