Belkin KVM help

I recently purchased the Belkin SOHO KVM switch model #F1DS102P http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...uct_Id=160611# . I am trying to let two computers share the keyboard mouse and monitor, but have run across some difficulty. One of the computers is a brand new notebook with everything connected to a port replicator... no problems. The other computer is a very old win 3.1 computer with serial keyboard and fat plug mouse. The main trouble I am having is the KVM switch is powered by the keyboard. I am not sure but with an adapter on the keyboard and plugging it in is does not seem to provide power to the switch. It works fine when the notebook is hooked up because i believe that is providing the power but when the notebook is not connected the kvm does not work. There is a power adapter available for the kvm but i dont want to spend the money if it wont work. does anyone have experience with this setup and can help me solve the problem. thank you in advance, any suggestions (beside replacing the computer) will be helpful.

i'm afraid you will have to buy the power adapter.

i have a similar (nonpowered) belkin kvm and ran into a situation where the kvm was acting errratic..on certain machines that i plugged in, they would boot so fast that the mouse very often would not become active unless i rebooted the machine.

attaching the adapter fixed everything.
