Kids DVD X-Copy?

Is it any good? I have 3 kids, who don't take the best of care. There are some movies I would like backups for. I read articles that call it the only copy program you'll ever need, get your entire backup movie on one disk, and so forth. Other's call it a coaster maker, or an over-priced commercial program. They recommend a hodge-podge of freeware/shareware programs. I went that route years ago. Really don't wish to return. Hundreds of different codecs to choose from. Not me. DVix is not what I want. The back of their package tells me X-Copy will do everything I want, and all I want is an occassional backup of my movies. What do my fellow TechIMO friends say?

Robert

i second the dvd shrink and nero method. 15-60min to encode (depending on compression) and 15 min to burn.

I'd highly recommend it. It's sort of a "fire and forget method" especially if you have a dvd burner and a dvd-rom. Pop in the dvd in dvd-rom, put dvd media in burner, click button walk away. Come back 30 minutes later and you have a perfect copy.

DVDxCopy Platinum is the best as it will let you really customize your copy by removing extra that you don't want to make the copy small and allows you to adjust the compression ratio with a slider bar.

I use dvdxcopy Plat. and on my A04 {burns at 2x} it takes roughly 40 mins to burn and on my son's A06 {burns at 4x} it takes 20 to 25 mins. I think it is worth it.

My vote is for the DVD Shrink and Nero... oooooooor... DVD Shrink + TMPGEnc + Encore DVD to produce great visual Quality and Custom menus.

Thats what I keep telling those Linux people but noooo they just wont listen anyways. I use the 2 click method with DVD Shrink Normally but when I want to put a lot of video on one DVD I use the best compression that I can

The latest version of DVD Shrink does everything for you, just like DVDXcopy. It's free and it works great. Even leaving everything on automatic, my DVDs look great.
