Systems Wireless G frustration

I am sharing my cable connection with my sons(2) via a D-Link DI-624 router with both wired and wireless options. The 2 PC's connected with wires connect to the internet without problem. My laptop has a D-Link wireless G card and will also connect to the internet. But we only seem to be able to add one more wireless PC. For whatever reason, adding another PC using a wireless G card ends up with nothing but frustration.

I should mention that I have configured the wireless setup with a unique SSID name, using a specific channel, and using a specific 64 bit WEP key. We have repeatedly checked to see that all computers using wireless cards are configured the same way. We are not sharing files or printers. We simply cannot get the last PC to connect to the internet. It will show there is a network available but will not connect to it.

My sons are more computer savvy than I but they can't make this fly either. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I should mention that the wireless G cards in the PC's are NOT from D-Link. One has a Microsoft card, the other a Linksys card. I suspect this may be part of the problem...

hrm very interesting problem, how about when you turn off wep? Does it still not give you internet?

do you have mac address filtering on by chance?

is the router running in dual mode or just G?

I have not located that setting.

We have only G cards. Again, I have not noted this setting in the configuration but I will look.

Disabling WEP did not make a difference.

Thank you for your interest.

im just going off of what my linksys router has. it has the ability to disable the wireless, set it to just B, or just G or dual mode. the reason for just b is because some older wireless cards dont work well with dual mode.

Any new firmware updates from d link?

btw the computer that gets a connection, does it get an 192.168.0.* number?

2 things.

1. when ever I make a change in my wireless for my linksys or Dlink routers I have to unplug the power and plug it back in for the changes to stick.

2. I have a 900mhz cordless phone next to my wireless Dlink modem and it caused the signal to fall to nothing. Once I unplugged the power from my phone all was ok.

I had previously updated to the latest firmware on the D-Link router. And, yes, the IP address is in the range you noted.

I tried resetting to a new SSID name and channel. Curiously, we got both wireless PC's to connect to the internet... so far.

Mebbe son #2 will shut up for a while. Sure hope this stays workin'.
