Help: Windows Update won't Update

I have XP Pro and windows update appears to work just fine - I do not get any error messages when I do a windows update. However, after installation completes, if I go back into Windows Update, the same updates appear - as if I never installed them.

Has anyone experienced this before? Some of the items actually installed correctly (such as WMP 9), but most never installed.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.

are u using your browser to go to www.windowsupdate.com and update from there?

or are u using 'Start -> Help and Support -> Windows Update'?

also, are u restarting the system if required before going back and checking the update list? chances are that if a restart is required and u are checking the list before restarting, the list is not getting updated.

Did you try installing them one at a time?

Some of the updates, WM9 is one, will only install by themselves.

I have the same problem. It's the Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP. I know it's installed because I ran the check tool. Still, at every boot up I get the little globe and the message that updates are ready to install.
