Generals/Red Alert 2/Yuri's Units blowing up when game starts

Hi all, has anyone else here got that bug which is present in at least C&C Red Alert 2, Yuri's Revenge, and now C&C Generals where less than 30 seconds into a game everything just blows up? You know something is a matter when three different games have the same problem, even when fully patched. EA's FAQ is less than helpful, stating that the files must have gotten corrupted and you just need to reinstall.

Hello? I've had this problem on two computers, three different hard drives, seperate installs of 98se, Win2k, and XP, and you are saying that the files are getting corrupted in 3 C&C games but nothing else? I think not.

EA needs some brains. They alienate their would-be fans by not only failing to patch obvious problems in some of the greatest games, nVidia is allied with them, and they don't write FAQ answers FOR $*@(.

I'm not the only one with this problem. TIMO member DarthGary can't play Generals because of it. I've had it on more systems than necessary, it's a "known issue", so c'mon.

I hate EA.

It's not really a bug, it's a copy-protection 'feature' that trips up if you stare at it wrong. Sounds like either a) your CDs are bad or b) you are really, really unlucky.

What EA says about it:

Well I guess it may be, but it's not like it happens from the start. One day I'll fire up a skirmish and boom - random. My copy of Generals is a fully-legal OEM pack I ordered from a private seller, and it worked from the start and then it does the dreaded thing again. The stuff I was mailed came from what I assume is a system builder, as everything says "MSI nBox" on it. My freind doesn't have that problem with it (at least I don't think so) and his copy is legal, and so are my RA2/Yuri's CD's.

Great Q&A testing there, guys - you SUCK. *grrr*
PS: I emailed EA about it, so I'll probably hear from them tommorow.

It may be legal. But I tried an install of Generals on my Lan on my wife's computer at first and everything went perfect. Tried to get it over to my own comp, and it must've detected the original install and gave me the same problem. I had to completely uninstall the game from the original computer in order for it to work on mine.

It's copy protection at it's greatest. I guess.
