CS Server for the dumby

I'm interested in making a Counter strike server. I have a extra computer but I can't get anything to work. I'm using XP home edition. Is there a tutorial out there that goes threw the process step by step? Any help would be grateful. Thanks.

This is 1.6 right? Well I'm not at my comp, nor can I connect to the web at home, but I remember that you have to install the Dedicated Server component through the Games menu in Steam. Then once that's ready, fire it up and go from there.

The thing to be careful with the dedicated server is that there are now two versions of the HLDS: 3111 and Steam. Go here for Steam and all its gory glory.

are you planning on running it off your cable/DSL line? cause im pretty sure if you make it public with more than 10 people you'll use tons of bandwidth.
