Outdoors PC won't recognize my "mouse"

This is frustrating.

I HAD a wireless/optical mouse. It was connected by a USB connection. It stopped working so I went to change the batteries. That didn't work, so I disconnected it completely and pulled out my old wired mouse. I know it works cause I'm using it on my 2nd PC. I plugged the old wired mouse into the standard mobo mouse port.

I'm running XP Pro and according to my device manager, no mouse is connected. I've rebooted several times, but it still doesn't recognize the mouse. I uninstalled the software for my wireless/optical mouse thinking there was some sort of driver conflict.

Anyone have any ideas?????

Are you plugged directly into the mobo's usb, or using a usb hub?

Try going into the device manager and updating the drivers for your usb controllers.

Did you go to the manufacturer's site to see if you have the latest drivers?

Have we just tried the other usb plug?

It is infuriating when that happens to you tho, my favorite keyboard and wireless mouse is laying in the corner.. just quit one day and I haven't had time to look into it....

You plugged the corded mouse into your PS2 port not usb right?
(sure the mouse still works? it happens) Did you reset your cordless after the new battery?

I plugged the old mouse into the PS2 port, not the USB

Plus, it's a real pain in the butt navigating around without a mouse.

This is why I hang on to my old serial mouse, You can always plug it in and it works. Haven't tried it on XP yet.
