KDE 3.2 out, Fast mirror here

Check it out, KDE 3.2 was just released.

Yippee!

A good, fast mirror (with rpm packages for many distros) can be found here

Well I just had a long, fancy review almost ready and dropped a pair of zip disks on my keyboard. I dunno how it managed to kill X???

Anyhow, to summerize:

SYSTEM WIDE MOUSE GESTURES!!!!! All I can say is wow!

The whole thing does feel much faster now.

Konqueror doesn't do as much weirdness displaying pages and is way faster. They also messed with the sidebar tab in the filemanager section (big improvement IMO). It also hasn't segfaulted yet, which Konq did in 3.1 and 3.0 all the time.

PlastiK, the default theme, looks really good. Kind of like Windows XP if it wasn't so ugly (colors are less gaudy, "3d" bits aren't as deep, etc).

Kopete is pretty nice (though still not up to gaim standards).

The graphical font installation gives you more control over what's happening.

Oh, KDE finally got a nice integrated real time resolution/refresh rate picker (like windows has had for ages) in KControl.

You can make the kicker transparent now.

Here's a screen grab of PlastiK (though I am using the Aqua-fusion color scheme, it's a bit better than the default):

EDIT: Oh yeah, and small things (like the bouncy icon next to the cursor, changeable kde startup screens, animated color change buttons in PlastiK) make it just look and feel more thoroughly thought out.

There's a graphical font installer? Please to be telling where? I just made a .fonts directory under my user and threw them in there.

I haven't run into the mouse gestures either. More playing needed.

They're both under KControl.

Mouse gestures:
KControl->Regional & Accessibility->KHotKeys

Font installer:
KControl->System Administration->Font Installer

Hi, I'm about to download this new verson of KDE. 2 Questions:

1) Which files do I download from the mirror? There are like tons of files in the SUSE 9 folder.

2)How do I install in on to my existing configuration, SUSE 9?

Sorry, newbite to linux Thanks alot everyone!!! -Paul

I just checked with "rpm -q packagename" which I already had installed.

For instance, you know you already have kdebase installed, but you might check

quanta
devel packages
kde-toys
etc

Or you you could just download everything to a kde-3.2 folder and do:

rpm -Uvh --nodeps *.rpm

and log out and log back in

Might have to take a look at this one in a while. I'll get someone with broadband to download it for me (if it ever gets here )

GroundZero just upgrade the packages that you have installed. You'll probably need the new qt and arts rpm, as well as the other new packages that match the kde 3.1.4 packages that you may have installed on your system. Just do a rpm -qa | grep kde, that'll give you every kde package you've got installed, then download the new packages that match these ones. Again, there are some packages that you'll need for KDE 3.2 like arts, qt, etc. If the output of the rpm query is to much then just redirect the input to a file so that you can read it better, that is rpm -qa | grep kde > /tmp/kde_quey.txt. Another thing since you're using Suse I had to use the --force allong with the --nodeps option for installing all of KDE 3.2, since the where some libraries that it didn't want to replace. We'll hope this helps . BTW KDE 3.2 does look pretty neat, I installed it but haven't played with it yet, but so far it looks and feels nice .
