If you can, try and get a 9700. They can be found for 200 and outperform all the midrange cards. The 5900 also can be had for those 200 bucks

The FX5900 is about as good as a ati9700pro or a 9800, and is easy overclocked to a FX5950ultra (which can bring it up to a ati9800xt or pro level) without problems so if your willing to overclock you can get the proformance of a card that cost twice as much. Heres a good linky.

ok, i kinda have it narrowed down a bit but i'm still needing suggestions!

people are saying that the 5900 can be overclocked and perform a lot better...so is this true?

and about the 9600xt, i've been seing TIVO on some of these cards...how does that work and how well does it work? is it worth it? how does the gaming on that card compare?

im mainly going to be playing medal of honor, call of duty, bf1942, etc.

oh and i have a 19" LCD monitor and i've been hearing about other output methods, like dvi etc.. is that better quality than the regular vga serial looking method?

from what they say , yes it is true . but remember overclocking is a card by card basis . because 1 card gets to XXX doesn't mean yours will .

and about the 9600xt, i've been seing TIVO on some of these cards...how does that work and how well does it work? is it worth it? how does the gaming on that card compare?

as far as i know "tivo" type systems are stand alone item and or software. but should be able to be added to any pc

im mainly going to be playing medal of honor, call of duty, bf1942, etc.

you should be very happy

oh and i have a 19" LCD monitor and i've been hearing about other output methods, like dvi etc.. is that better quality than the regular vga serial looking method?

dvi is digital signal so yes you should get a better signal with it over analog . now will you notice it , thats all in the beholder .
