Utility to check memory hardware sought

I am looking for a utility to physically write and read to every memory register on a memory stick in my computer.

Currently I encounter memory address errors whenever manipulating large data sets, after much processing has already occurred.

Free-ware and/or applets are preferred for this test. Alternately source code would be sufficient if any of you have already written a utility to test this. Given that memory addresses are numbered sequentially, I suspect that the source code for such a utility would not be too difficult to write, but currently it is beyond my own level of knowledge to compose.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Or the newer, more up to date version

Thanks for the updated Memtest86+ Scott Tiger. I always Google "memtest86" and the first link is the one I posted.

Glad to post it. I came across it completely by accident myself. It does recognize my Nforce2 400 chipset so I'd say it's about as up to date as it can get.

You might also be interested in Microsoft's new Windows Memory Diagnostic. (I could not get the floppy to work, but booting to CD worked fine)

Hot CPU Tester Pro

I've had this program find problems that memtester couldn't find.

Finance

EvilRick, Scott Tiger,

memtest86 (the newer version) ran on my PC for about 17 1/2 hours without detecting any errors. I'm not sure how many cycles of testing this includes, but it is several.

This does help, but it doesn't provide me with a solution to my problem.....I still encounter memory address errors when running apps..... I was hoping this would prove a hardware error.

ARGHHHHH!

Foggy,

I will give your utility a try.

ctaylor,
Is is one specific program throwing these memory errors during your data manipulation? Bad code? Memory leak (does it happen after the program has been running for a period of time)? Assuming it is one program, have you tried a re-install of the program?
