Not the best ... Just good enough

I about to put together a system , just the bare bones type stuff. A 2.4 AMD chip with a good mother board, not the best but one that will hold its own. I plan on using DDR RAM. I'm not trying to bankrupt my self if you know what I mean but just something that not cheap and flimsy. Which means I'm open to suggestions if you have any. Also, could you point me to a couple good site that gives good reviews on hardware.

Thanks in Adv ...

For reviews theres

www.tomshardware.com

www.anandtech.com

for prices theres

www.pricewatch.com

DDR RAM is a must!! Its about the same price as SDRAM and double the performance.... go with a quality mobo like Asus or Abit...and always remember to keep the PC well ventilated.... if this is your first time go to extremetech.com it has a really good tutorial

good luck and happy trails!!

After you've done some research, compile a list of components you are considering, and post them here...you'll have a few opinions within minutes, cause us folk ain't got nothin' better to do than give opinions

Seriously, once you've done your research, throw us a list and see what we think. Usually, anyone with half a brain, and has taken the time to think it out comes up with a decent system on their own...we're just here to let you know of any pitfalls you may encounter with the components you've chosen, and suggest others that you may want to consider....Good luck!

as for ram just make sure to get at least the same speed as your fsb

as for the cpu i dont think amd accually has a 2.4 ghz but a 2500+ would suit your needs those are also really easy to oc to 3200+ from what i've heard so i would get pc3200 ram

for a mobo i would recoment an nforce 2 chipset

also newegg.com has some really good prices and are much more reliable than the few bucks you would save frome buying off pricewatch and plus you dont get it in like 10 packages like you would if you baught it all from the cheapest retailer (plus you get a free shirt )

I really like Biostar boards...very easy to work with

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...=BROWSE&depa=1

Thats a good "NForce2" board with the onboard GeForce4 graphics for like $65 from a great dealer.

Abit nf-7 mobo , 2 sticks of 256M crucial pc3200 memory , dynatron bh610 cpu cooler , amd xp 2500 Barton , enermax 350 watts psu with 26A on the +12V rail output , that's about a $300 USD good start .

pc chips do a good deals on motherboard and proccessor bndels. goto www.ebuyer.co.uk

the pc chips810dlua9 has a AMD 2000+ onboard video and sound..... only £51................. brilliant

theres not much diffrence in price in DDR at the moment so i would say DDR 333 around £50 for a 512 moduel

Case with 350 PSU £20....... DVD/CDRW £20/£30........Floppy £6

Cabels no more then a £5 and make sure you buy a few fans to keep it kool

altogther your looking at £200-£250
