I have a Ti4x00, why is my game laggin?
I have seen recently that a lot of topics are asking about lagging in games with Nvidia Ti4x00 seriers cards. I just wanted to throw this thread out there.
If you are using the latest Nvidia drivers on your Ti4x00 seriers card, in most cases there will be a drop in performance and thus the lagging sensation. The newer drivers are made for the FX series cards (dx9 cards) while the older drivers 43.xx, 44.xx, 45.xx work much better with the Ti 4x00 serier. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_45.23.html
Now there could geniuely be a problem that is not the drivers, but just to hopefully save a few new threads, just wanted to throw this info out there.
A good example of the drivers is when back in december Nvidia came out with the 53.03, and all the nvidias users jumped to install noticed a huge drop in fps. At callofduty.org there were countless threads about the all of a sudden lag (all having ti seriers cards), but when they rolled back, it was gone. Because the new drivers wern't meant for the ti's. So hopefully this can help a few people who experience slowdowns when gaming with ti cards.

hey shawshank62 do you know if the new nvidia drivers cause frame rates to drop with the gfroce 3 cards also since its a direct 8 card also? Im not in a rush to buy a new video card till after the new video chipsets come out.

| I cant say for sure, but i would imagine so. Like you said, its dx8, so it would probably have the same effect.

| For higher cards like the 4600 its not really noticable, since it is faster, it compensates for the slowdown anyway. Only way you would really see a difference would be with a benchmarking program.

IMO, once you get up higher into the ti's its mostly theoretical. I could definetly notice my 4200 dropped down, but (now i have never seen a 4600, so im kind of winging it here) the 4600 higher speedage, so it probably wouldnt make that much of a difference. Maybe someone wants to do 2k1 with the 53.xx and then with the 45.xx then we can know for sure. But from my experience, 4200 (and probably with the gf3) is where you will see the most gains. Quote: |

| If it ain't broken, dont fix it. If you dont get slowdowns and lag, etc. I wouldnt worry.

I overclock mine to the max I can get it at, but I will try it and see how it goes, i prefere to use msi drivers tho they will release their own set, sometimes they will have differen't version numbers because they had changed them and they are usually stable, msi has a couple of extra things in the drivers like an easy oc'ing util that works great.
However I think I will try and see how that goes with the drivers.

I have found that the 44.03 drivers work best with my Asus Ti4200 |
