Just a few questions

Hey - I've got a few questions that im hoping some of you could answer for me...

1.) If I get a gigabit ethernet card, does it require different cable, or still the same ol' cat5? I've taken cisco courses but we never discussed it.

2.) I know there's RAID0 and 1, (mirroring and overlaying write), what other RAID functions are there?

3.) What's the best software for taking a video capture and writing text and design to it? For example, when WCW Nitro was still on the flames came across the screen and had the wrestlers name. I help an Indy wrestling scene in my area and all the software i've tried either sucked or I didn't understand. I just want simple text and graphics like I described.

4.) I want to upgrade my CS server. Should I stick with regular old IDE or go to SCSI? I know IDE has a slower access time, but IDE also has more buffer cache (normally).

Thanks for your help!!!

4.) what are the specs of your cs server right now? I dont really think moving to SCSI will increase preformance all the much with the players online. Upgrading RAM or CPU might give you a nice needed boost.

I was told in my A+ class that cat6 is the minimum for gigabit ethernet.

I believe the Line up is this:

CAT cables:

1 - Voice Only
2 - 4Mbps (Token Ring)
3 - 10Mbps (Ethernet)
4 - 16Mbps (Token Ring)
5 - 100Mbps (Fast Ethernet)
5e - 1000Mbps (Giga-Ethernet)
6 - 2-4Gbps
7 - Inexcess of 10Gbps
