Outdoors Dead Video Screen

I have just built an AMD FX-51 system with the following components:

ASUS SK8V MB
AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 Processor
Kingston 400 mhz DDR 1 GB (2-512 gb)
ASUS V9520 GeForce FX5200 Video Card
WD 200 GB SATA HDD's (3)
Thermaltake tower case
Thermaltake 480 w PS

The power seems to come up fine. All fans work, fan controllers, LED displays work etc. However the video will not come up. I get the dialog "no video input" on the monitor and that is all. I have reseated the processor and heatsink, dimms, video card, checked monitor plug, tried monitor with another machine (it works fine). What else can I do? How can I determine if the MB or Video card is bad? Could I have something else plugged in wrong?

Have you tried the video card on that other machine?

Any BIOS beeps that might indicate what's going on?

Do you get a successful post test beep?
If not, the CPU is most likely not running.
Check the manual for any CMOS settings that may be wrong.
Then try loading setup defaults.

There are no beeps at all. I have checked the CMOS jumper and it is set at "do not clear RTC". What do you mean setup defaults?

First, strip the machine down to just the MB, CPU, RAM and vid card. If problems continue, you may want to pull the MB out of the case to be sure its not shorting out on something.

Next step is to clear CMOS, and make sure every jumper on the MB is set properly. Check for BIOS POST beep when you boot (make sure the MB has a built in speaker, or attach one)

Also make sure the HSF is properly plugged in (to the correct fan header), and its working - some boards won't boot if there's no HSF fan signal.

If you still get nothing, you're in kind of a tuff situation. The "no video" problem could be caused by problems with the monitor, MB, CPU, video card, or RAM. (sometimes you'll get POST beep codes to help diagnose the problem, but not always.

At that point, its really a matter of "trial and error". You need to either swap known good parts into the system you're building, or test the new parts in another system. Since its an FX-51, chances are you won't have a way to test the MB or processor (unless you happen to have another FX-51 laying around). So the best you can do is try to eliminate the monitor, video card, and RAM as the problem. There is a slight chance it could even be a power supply issue, so you might want to check that as well.

The MB manual says to remove battery set jumper to clear position for 10-15 seconds, replace jumper to default, replace battery, then boot, press del for setup. Is this correct and is this where I choose setup defaults?
